MARTIAN DEATH RAY

“Intellects vast, cool and unsympathetic.”

Asteroids in the Arcade

THEY are good – too good, so good this might end here and now.

My heart beats faster. My breathing quickens. My body arches over the controls nursing every atom from the hyperdrive.

I’ve lost two ships while lurking in the thick of the Belt, and now clear of the swarming debris, I see the monotony of space curve into infinity.

The QuadraScan shows two, small asteroids caught by the gravitational well of my wedge-shaped ship and another ship inbound.

Is it friend or foe?

With shaking hands, I ready myself and push my ship into the void.
